What kinds of UGC do app teams buy?
Three things get sold as UGC. Ad creatives: a creator films a video and hands you the file to run as an ad. Own-account posts: the creator posts on their own TikTok or Reels profile. Canvas UGC: the creator posts on an account made for your app. They differ in whose audience sees the video.
| Ad creative | Own-account post | Canvas UGC | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it shows | Your ad account | The creator's profile and the feed | A new account made for one app |
| Audience | Whoever your ads target | The creator's followers, plus the feed | The feed only |
| Usual pay | Per video, plus ad spend | Per video, per month or per 1,000 views | Base pay plus a bonus per 1,000 views |
| You get | A file and usage rights | Views on a real person's profile | Frequent posts on one account |
Which UGC formats work for app installs?
The formats app teams order most show the app working on a real phone. Collab Only lists App Store previews, install ads, testimonials and onboarding walkthroughs; JoinBrands sells screen recordings with face cam, tutorials and testimonials. Pick the format by the doubt a viewer has right before installing.
| Format | Fits when | Ask the creator for |
|---|---|---|
| Demo (screen recording + face cam) | The value shows in one action: scan, generate, translate | The result early, on a real screen |
| Problem and fix | The problem is common and easy to show | One problem per video, the app named out loud |
| Testimonial | Trust decides the install: finance, health, paid plans | Only what the creator actually experienced |
| Reaction or green screen | The app's output is surprising or funny | A real reaction, with the output visible |
| Slideshow | Lists, tips, before-and-after | A strong first slide; check the deal covers photo posts |
| Onboarding walkthrough | Setup is where people drop off | The free part, and where the paywall sits |
Change one thing at a time. Example plan: one format, three opening lines, five creators. Keep the line that wins and write more like it.
How much does UGC for apps cost?
As of October 2026, app UGC is priced three ways: per video, roughly $75-$400 for app content; per video plus a monthly base or a per-view bonus, which is how Canvas UGC usually pays; or purely per 1,000 views. Some platforms add a monthly plan or a percentage fee on top of creator pay.
| Model | Example price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Per video, app benchmarks | $75-$400; testimonials $75-$200, onboarding walkthroughs $150-$400 | Collab Only |
| Per video, marketplace | From $99, full usage rights, no subscription | Billo |
| Monthly plan + creator pay | Insense $500/mo quarterly or $400/mo yearly, + 10% fee; SideShift $299/mo monthly or $210/mo yearly; creator pay extra | Insense, SideShift |
| Canvas UGC | Medians: $16 per video, $1 per 1,000 views bonus, $500 monthly base where used | viral.app |
| Canvas UGC view bonus | $2-$4 per 1,000 views per post, on average, as reported by BBB | BBB National Programs |
| Pure per view | Noise: $0 to start, pay as views are delivered. Markapping (opening soon): from $1.00 per 1,000 views, $500 minimum budget + 10% fee | Noise, Markapping pricing |
The break-even check: divide a per-video price by a per-view rate and multiply by 1,000. Example: a $150 video costs the same as 150,000 views at $1.00 per 1K. If an organic post would get fewer views, per view buys more reach. If you'll run the file as an ad, ad spend comes on top. For the whole budget, see how much it costs to market an app.
| Approach | What it buys | You pay |
|---|---|---|
| Per video at $150 | 6 videos, $100 left; reach depends on ads or where you post | $900 + ad spend |
| Canvas at viral.app medians | 30 videos at $16, then up to 520,000 bonus views at $1 per 1K | $1,000 + any platform fees |
| Markapping at $1.00 per 1K | Up to 1,000,000 counted views | $1,100 (10% fee included) |
- Buys up to
- You pay (with 10% fee)
- $5,500
Minimum budget $500, minimum rate $1.00 per 1,000 views. Install, trial or subscription bonuses are not included here. Payment processing fees, if any, are shown before you pay.
Should you use AI UGC or real creators for your app?
Use AI UGC to test hooks and scripts cheaply in your own ads. Use real creators when trust matters and when you want reach on real accounts. The Social Outline, an agency that sells both, reports AI UGC at about $2-$50 per finished video against $150-$500 for standard human creators.
| Job | AI UGC | Real creators |
|---|---|---|
| Testing many hooks in ads | Fast and cheap | Slower, cost adds up |
| Testimonials | Off limits: the experience must be real | Works when it's real |
| Posting on TikTok | Realistic AI people must be labeled | Branded content label only |
| Reaching an audience | None of its own | The creator's followers, plus the feed |
Two rules settle most of this. TikTok requires a label on AI-generated or significantly edited content showing realistic-looking scenes or people. The FTC's 2024 rule bans testimonials from someone who does not exist, such as AI-generated reviews, or from someone with no real experience of the product. Markapping is built for real creators posting as themselves.
Where do app teams find UGC creators?
Four kinds of places: the platforms' own creator marketplaces, UGC marketplaces that sell videos, Canvas UGC job boards, and pay-per-view platforms. They differ in whose account the video ends up on and in what you pay for: a file or views. Every claim was checked Oct 18, 2026, on the company's own page.
| Option | Type | How you pay | Stronger at |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok One | TikTok's creator marketplace | Creators paid directly, online by TikTok or offline by you | Working inside TikTok |
| Instagram creator marketplace | Meta's marketplace | Agreed per creator | Working inside Instagram; in more countries since May 2024 |
| Billo | Per-video UGC | From $99 per video | Files with full usage rights for ads |
| Insense | UGC plus ad tools | From $400/mo (yearly) + 10% fee + creator pay | Partnership ads and Spark Ads code sharing |
| JoinBrands | UGC, has an apps page | No price on its apps page | 10-50 videos per campaign, as it states |
| viral.app | Job board, mostly Canvas UGC | Per video, often plus a per-1K bonus | High posting volume for app brands |
| SideShift | Hiring and campaign tools | $299/mo, or $210/mo yearly, + creator pay | Contracts, usage rights and payouts in one place |
| Noise | Pay-per-view marketplace | Performance (CPM) pay; $0 to start | No contracts, minimums or retainers, per its site; live now |
| Markapping | Pay-per-view for mobile apps | From $1.00 per 1K; $500 minimum + 10% fee | Creators' own accounts, label on; optional install, trial or subscription bonus. Opening soon |
For ad files you own, a per-video marketplace like Billo or JoinBrands fits better. For daily posts on one account, use a Canvas job board. Markapping pays only for counted views on creators' own accounts, and is not live yet. More on that model: pay-per-view influencer marketing.
What should an app UGC brief include?
A good app brief fits on one screen: one goal, one viewer, the one moment of the app to show, the claims you allow, the disclosure rule, and how the creator gets access. The script is the creator's call. This template works for per-video and per-view deals alike.
- 01
Goal and how you'll measure it
Installs, trials or views. Where a creator can share a link, give each one an App Store campaign link with its own token or a Play link with UTM tags. Apple shows a metric only once it reaches 5.
- 02
The viewer, in one sentence
Example: "students who keep missing deadlines".
- 03
The moment to show
The one action that makes someone want the app, on a real phone.
- 04
Claims allowed and off limits
TikTok's Branded Content Policy bans false or misleading claims and restricts categories such as financial services and real-money games.
- 05
Disclosure and access
Label on, partnership said in the video. Send premium codes if the good part is paid.
- 06
Written rules
Write down every rule you will judge by, so creators know what gets a video approved.
On Markapping, most of the brief becomes campaign settings. See how Markapping works for app owners.
| Brief item | Markapping setting |
|---|---|
| Who can make videos | Open to everyone, by application, or invite-only |
| Check ideas first | Optional draft review before posting |
| Approval | Automatic, or review each video; unreviewed after 48 hours means approved |
| Written rules | Reject only for a rule written in the campaign, naming it and giving a reason |
| Access | Optional premium code list |
| Spend control | Optional max earnings per video and per creator, max number of videos, minimum views before pay |
| Counting window | 7, 14 or 30 days after approval; views count from posting |
| Installs | Optional bonus for installs, trials or paid subscriptions |
Who owns the video, and how must it be disclosed?
It depends on what you bought. Per-video marketplaces usually include usage rights: Billo says each order includes full usage rights, and JoinBrands says ownership transfers on approval. A post on a creator's own account stays theirs. To run it as an ad, you need their permission through TikTok Spark Ads or Instagram partnership ads.
- Spark Ads: the creator authorizes a post with a code, for a duration you agree (TikTok Ads Help).
- Partnership ads: the creator shares a partnership ad code or grants permissions (Instagram Help Center).
- Markapping: campaigns pay for counted views on the creator's own post. Whether app owners can reuse those videos in ads will be confirmed before the panels open.
Disclosure is required in every model. TikTok's Branded Content Policy requires the commercial content disclosure toggle. Instagram's branded content policies require the paid partnership label. The FTC says a platform label alone may not be enough, wants video disclosures on screen and out loud, and holds the company responsible for what others do on its behalf.
Questions
Is UGC still worth it for apps in 2026?
App teams still buy it: as of October 2026, JoinBrands has a page for app companies and viral.app lists UGC jobs from app brands. Whether it pays off depends on format and cost per result, so start small and compare cost per install across a few creators.
What is Canvas UGC?
A creator posts about one app on an account made for that app, often several times a day, with some contracts lasting up to 90 days, according to BBB National Programs. Pay is usually a base fee plus a bonus per 1,000 views. BBB warned in July 2026 that disclosures may fall short.
How much should I pay a UGC creator for an app video?
Collab Only's 2026 benchmarks put app UGC at $75-$400 per video, depending on format. Canvas UGC jobs on viral.app paid a median $16 per video plus $1 per 1,000 views as of October 2026. On a per-view model you set a rate instead; Markapping rates start at $1.00 per 1,000 views.
Can I use AI UGC for my app ads?
For testing hooks in your own ads, yes, with care. TikTok requires a label on AI content showing realistic people or scenes, and the FTC bans testimonials from people who don't exist or never used the product. Use real creators for testimonials and for posts on real accounts.
How do I track installs from UGC videos?
Where creators can share a link, give each one an App Store campaign link with its own token, or a Google Play link with UTM tags. Viewers who search the store instead won't be attributed, so also compare installs on posting days. Markapping's analytics will show an install-lift figure, labeled as an estimate.
How is Markapping different from a UGC marketplace?
A UGC marketplace usually sells you videos per piece. Markapping is a pay-per-view creator marketing platform for mobile apps: app owners fund a campaign and pay creators for every 1,000 views their videos get on TikTok and Instagram Reels. It is not live yet; app owners can join the waitlist.
