What are the four ways to market an app on TikTok?
There are four routes. You can post from your own account, post photo slideshows, pay other creators to post about the app, or buy ads in TikTok Ads Manager. They differ in what you pay with: time for the first two, a fee or a per-view rate for creators, and a daily budget for ads.
| Route | You pay with | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Your own account | Time | Slow to build; one voice, one audience |
| Photo slideshows | Time | Cheap in volume; the app is not shown in motion |
| Other creators | A flat fee per post, or a rate per 1,000 views | New audiences fast; quality varies by creator |
| App Promotion and Spark Ads | A daily ad budget | Scales, but needs tracking and fresh videos |
The routes feed each other: your posts find the angle, creators test it, and ads buy reach for proven videos. For channels beyond TikTok, see how to market an app.
How much does it cost to advertise an app on TikTok?
As of October 2026, posting yourself costs nothing but time. Influencer Marketing Hub reports creator posts at roughly $50 to $5,000 each for creators under 1 million followers, per-view campaigns center near $1.00 per 1,000 views, and in-feed ads are reported at $4 to $15 per 1,000 impressions in the US.
| Route | Typical cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Own account or slideshows | $0, your time | No cash cost |
| Creator, flat fee per post | Nano (1K-10K followers) $50-$200, micro (10K-100K) $200-$800, macro (100K-1M) $800-$5,000 | Influencer Marketing Hub, Aug 2026 |
| Creator, per 1,000 views | Median $1.00, range $0.05-$3.00 (50 Whop Content Rewards campaigns) | Foundry, Sep 2026 |
| Creator, per 1,000 views | $0.20-$6, most listings near $1 | OpenClip, Aug 2026 |
| Ads, per 1,000 impressions | $4.20-$9.00 typical; $4-$15 for US in-feed | Darkroom, Oct 2026; IQFluence, Jul 2026 |
| Ads, minimum daily budget | Over $50 per campaign, over $20 per ad group | TikTok Ads Manager help |
The units differ. An ad CPM prices 1,000 impressions, including quick scrolls past. A per-view rate pays for counted views. A flat fee buys a post, views unknown. Other channels: how much it costs to market an app.
Which TikTok formats sell an app?
Formats that show the app doing one job work best, since viewers decide in seconds if the problem is theirs. TikTok's mobile app advertising guide says to capture attention in under two seconds. Four formats do that for most apps.
- Screen recording with a voiceover. The one flow that sells the app. Example: a budgeting app turns a statement into a chart.
- Problem to fix. Open on the problem in the viewer's words, then show the fix. Example: "I never remember which plants I watered", then the reminder screen.
- Before and after. The result first, then how the app got there.
- Slideshow. Still images with text, set to music. TikTok describes Photo Mode as a carousel viewers swipe at their own pace. No one appears on camera.
A slideshow shape to test (example): slide 1 states the problem, slides 2 to 4 give useful tips, slide 5 shows the app screen that handles the last tip, and the final slide names the app. The tips earn the swipe; the app comes last.
Many viewers search the store instead of tapping a link, so show and say the exact app name. TikTok's guide also suggests testing two or three versions at a time and refreshing videos every one to two weeks.
Should you pay TikTok creators a flat fee or per view?
Pay a flat fee when you want one specific creator and a fixed cost. Pay per view when you want many creators and only want to pay for reach that happened. A flat fee puts the risk of a flop on you; a per-view rate shares it with the creator, so it needs clear rules about what counts.
| Flat fee per post | Rate per 1,000 views | |
|---|---|---|
| If the video flops | You pay the full fee | You pay for the views it got |
| If it takes off | Cost per view drops | Cost grows, up to your caps |
| Main risk | A post few people see | Fake views, so checks matter |
| Better for | A known creator or a launch moment | Testing many angles on a fixed budget |
To compare a flat-fee quote with a per-view rate, divide the fee by the views the creator's recent videos get, then multiply by 1,000.
- Your effective CPM
- $8.33 / 1K views
- Same views, paid per view
- $90
CPM is the cost per 1,000 views: price ÷ views × 1,000. Platform fees and any install, trial or subscription bonuses are not included.
To hire creators one by one inside TikTok, TikTok One offers creator marketing with no minimum ad spend.
Markapping is a pay-per-view creator marketing platform for mobile apps: app owners fund a campaign and pay creators for every 1,000 views their videos get on TikTok and Instagram Reels. It is not live yet. App owners set a rate from $1.00 per 1,000 views, pay a budget from $500 up front plus a 10% platform fee, and can add install, trial or subscription bonuses. Caps per video and per creator are optional; every video gets a fake-view check. See how Markapping works for apps and pay-per-view influencer marketing.
Example: a $1,000 budget at $1.00 per 1,000 views with a $100 cap per video costs $1,100 in total and pays for up to 1,000,000 counted views, across at least 10 videos.
Do creators have to use TikTok's paid partnership label?
Yes. TikTok's Branded Content Policy requires creators to turn on the commercial content disclosure toggle when a post promotes a third-party brand in exchange for payment or any other incentive. On a creator's post about your app, choosing Branded content shows a Paid partnership label. Posts about your own app on your own account use the Your brand option.
- 01
Open settings
On the post screen, tap Content disclosure and ads (TikTok help).
- 02
Turn on the toggle
Turn on Disclose commercial content and choose Branded content.
- 03
Post
Save, confirm and post. The post shows Paid partnership.
TikTok says the label does not change how it recommends a post, while undisclosed commercial posts may not be eligible for the For You feed. In the US, the FTC's Disclosures 101 says disclosure belongs in the video itself and a platform tool may not be enough, so creators should say it too.
On Markapping, creators post on their own account with the paid partnership or branded content label on, and videos without it don't count. Full walkthrough: the paid partnership label on TikTok and Instagram.
How do App Promotion ads and Spark Ads work?
App Promotion is the TikTok Ads Manager objective for app installs and app retargeting. Spark Ads run an existing organic post as an ad, yours or a creator's with their authorization. Together they buy more reach for a video that already works, and the post keeps its likes and comments.
- 01
Connect measurement
TikTok's app advertising guide says to integrate a mobile measurement partner (MMP) or TikTok's Events API.
- 02
Pick the objective
Choose App Promotion, then App install or App retargeting, and select your app.
- 03
Set the budget
Daily budgets must exceed $50 per campaign and $20 per ad group (TikTok help). One ad group just over $20 a day is about $600 a month.
- 04
Add videos
Use your best organic post as a Spark Ad. For a creator's post, you need their authorization code.
The creator turns on Ad authorization in the post's ad settings, picks 7, 30, 60 or 365 days, and sends you the code. Agree on ad use and its length before they post.
The in-app Promote button is a different tool. As of October 2026, its goals listed by TikTok cover views, followers, profile views, leads, sales or website visits, and LIVE, but not app installs.
Ads use up videos fast: RevenueCat's TikTok Ads guide (updated December 2025) recommends at least 15 quick ads and five polished ones per week.
How do you track installs when viewers search the store instead of tapping?
You can't track all of them, so measure three ways at once: store campaign links for people who tap, a promo code or onboarding question for people who remember, and the rise in store-search installs while videos run. Measurement company Airbridge describes the usual behavior on social platforms as watch, then search.
- App Store: a campaign link with one campaign token (ct) per creator. Apple counts first-time downloads within 24 hours of the link and shows a campaign once five users download through it.
- Google Play: add utm_source to your store link; Play Console shows it when you filter traffic by ads and referrals, and searches for your app's name appear as Google Play search (Google).
- Codes or a question: give each creator a promo code, or ask "Where did you hear about us?" in onboarding.
- Search lift: compare daily store-search installs before posting with the weeks during.
When Markapping opens, its analytics for app owners will show campaign spend, counted views, top videos, and an install-lift figure clearly labeled as an estimate.
What does a 30-day TikTok plan for a new app look like?
Spend two weeks finding the angle that works for free, one week testing it with other creators, and the last week putting ad money behind what worked. This is an example plan, not a formula: adjust it to what your videos do.
- 01
Days 1-3: set up
Make store campaign links, note daily store-search installs, and pick three angles: problem, result, one feature.
- 02
Days 4-14: post daily
One or two videos a day across the four formats. Note which angle holds viewers and moves store searches.
- 03
Days 15-21: add creators
Brief creators on the winning angle: flat fees, or a per-view campaign with a cap per video.
- 04
Days 22-30: add ads
Run your best posts as Spark Ads under App Promotion, near the minimum budget. Keep posting.
- 05
Day 30: decide
Compare cost per install by route. Keep what brings users who stay.
| Total | Creators | Ads |
|---|---|---|
| $0 | None, your own posts only | None |
| About $700-$750 | $500 per-view budget (on Markapping, $550 with the 10% fee), or one or two micro creators | About $200: one ad group near the minimum, days 22-30 |
Questions
Can I promote my app on TikTok?
Yes. You can post about it from your own account, pay creators to post about it, or run App Promotion ads in TikTok Ads Manager. Creators you pay must turn on the commercial content disclosure setting under TikTok's Branded Content Policy, which labels their post as a Paid partnership.
How much does it cost to advertise an app on TikTok?
TikTok ads need over $50 a day per campaign and over $20 per ad group (TikTok help). US in-feed CPMs are reported at about $4 to $15 per 1,000 impressions (IQFluence). As of October 2026, nano and micro creators are reported at roughly $50 to $800 per post, and per-view campaigns center near $1.00 per 1,000 views.
Is TikTok's Promote button worth it for an app?
Not for installs. As of October 2026, TikTok's help center lists Promote goals for views, followers, profile views, leads, sales or website visits, and LIVE, but not app installs. For trackable installs, use the App Promotion objective in Ads Manager.
Do TikTok slideshows work for app marketing?
They are a cheap way to test angles, since one person can make several a day without filming. Put useful content first and the app near the end, with its exact name on screen. Judge them by store-search lift and installs, not only views.
Should I post from a business account or a personal account?
Either works. One difference: on a business account, the Add Sound menu shows only sounds from TikTok's Commercial Music Library, which TikTok describes as free for businesses. For posts promoting your own app, that library is the cautious choice on any account.
Can I pay TikTok creators per view instead of per post?
Yes. Per-view campaigns pay a set rate for every 1,000 views, usually with caps per video and fake-view checks. A September 2026 review of 50 public campaigns found a median of $1.00 per 1,000 views (Foundry). Markapping is built for this, for mobile apps on TikTok and Instagram Reels, and opens soon.
